Windshield Time
Definition
Windshield time is the hours a crew spends driving between jobs rather than cleaning, unpaid time that directly cuts into the day’s profit.
Every minute behind the windshield costs fuel, wages, and a cleaning slot you could have sold. Two well-paid jobs an hour apart can earn less in a day than four jobs ten minutes apart, even at the same prices.
The fix is geographic: cluster jobs into zone days, book new work near existing jobs, and resist the scattered scheduling that feels flexible but bleeds the route. Cutting windshield time is the same lever as raising route density, viewed from the cost side.
