Oxidation

Definition

Oxidation is the chalky, faded layer that forms as sunlight and weather break down the surface of siding, gutters, and painted metal over time.

You can see oxidation when a wipe of the surface leaves a chalky residue on your hand. It dulls color and, on gutters, shows up as tiger striping that a standard wash will not remove.

Heavy oxidation sets expectations. A wash cleans the dirt and growth but cannot restore a chalked, faded finish to new, and pushing harder with pressure only damages it. Honest operators explain this up front so the customer is not surprised that a faded wall is clean but still faded.
