GPM (Gallons Per Minute)

Definition

GPM, gallons per minute, is a pressure washer flow rate - how much water it moves - and it usually matters more than psi for how fast you finish a job.

Flow is what carries dirt and chemical off the surface and rinses it away. A higher-gpm machine clears a wall or a slab faster because it moves more water per pass, which is why production-minded operators prize gpm.

Gpm also sizes your other equipment. Your surface cleaner, injector draw, and nozzle tips all have to match the flow your machine produces. Buy too small a surface cleaner for high gpm and it overspeeds; too large for low gpm and it stalls.
