How to Clean a Deck Without Damaging the Wood
The short answer

Why does high pressure ruin a wood deck?
Wood is made of fibers of different density. Spring growth is soft; summer growth is hard. Once the grain is raised, the board drinks stain unevenly and weathers faster.

Start in an inconspicuous area with the least aggressive approved process. Let the test dry before judging it; wet boards hide striping, color change, raised fiber, and coating failure. Stop if fibers lift, the cap changes sheen, pigment transfers, fasteners react, or water enters the structure. The right response to a failed test is a different method or a declined scope—not a harder pass.
What chemistry actually cleans the deck?

How long should the deck dry before sealing?
